Hair growth Patterns

Hair growth patterns are a very common thing these days.

Hair growth patterns is where you get a section of your hair or individual hairs may grow in a particular direction. It is always best to have hair growth patterns identified, this is because they determine the look that you want to create and the best technique that should be used.

You will find that some people will have very strong hair growth pattens, If you have a very strong hair growth patten it will need careful attention to produce the best effect or to prevent the hair from sticking straight up where you do not want it to.

Now here are some of the unusual hair growth patterns you may come across and ways to have your hair cut to keep them under control.

Widows Peak

You will find a widows peak at the front hairline. The hair will grow upward and forward forming a strong peak.
when you have a widows peak it is better to have your hair cut into a style that you can dress away from your face, because if you had a fringe you would most likely find that it will separate and stick straight up.

You may find a short cropped style or a style with a parting may be suitable as well, and if you really want a fringe it is possible if you keep the layers long.

Nape Whorl

You will find a nape whorl at either side of your nape, and sometimes you can find them both side.
A nape whorl can make it difficult to cut if you like to have a straight neckline. When you have a nape whorl you will often find the hair will naturally form a v-shape.
When having your hair cut you will find having your neckline tapered more suitable, but sometimes it is best to leave the hair longer so that it weights the hair to overcome the nape whorl movement.

Double Crown

You will find having a double crown a very common thing. When having a double crown it is usually best to leave the hair longer as if you have it cut to short you will find the hair will stick up and you will never get it to lie flat.

Cowlick

You will find a cowlick on the hairline at the front of your head. A cowlick makes it very difficult to have a straight fringe, especially on fine hair as you will find the hair often forms a natural parting.
If you have a cowlick and really want a fringe it can be achieved if you leave the layers longer this will weight the hair down.

The bob hair style is a very popular hair cut that has been around since our parents and grandparents were little girls. The bob hair cut will never completely be out of fashion.

If you are thinking of giving a bob style a go you will have to consider what sort of bob you would like, as there are many definitions of the bob style. One thing with the bob style is that there is one for every face shape, and if you have fine hair having the right bob can make it look thicker but if you have thick hair a bob can make it more manageable and also look more under controle.

A bob style is very versatile which means that it is perfect for what every texture or thinckness your hair is.

so here are some idears on different bob styles.

The short bob

The short bob looks great with an oval or square face shape, your hair should be dead straight. When asking for this style let the stylist know that you would like the longest piece of hair about an inch above your chin this will give you a face hugging effect.

The best maintenance for this style to keep it looking great is to vist your salon once every month.

The blunt bob

The blunt bob is great if you have very fine hair as it will make your hair look thicker. This style doesn’t work if your hair is curly hair unless you are willing to straighten it everyday. When asking for this cut ask for a blunt line as a shaggy line will emphasizes thin hair, also having a severe fringe will aslo give sharpness to this hair cut.

The best maintenance for this style to keep it looking great is to blow-dry it straight and finish with straighteners, I would also get it trimmed every 6 weeks to keep the style in shape.

The curly bob

The curly bob looks great, but if you have a round face shape have the hair longer than your chin and also a bit longer on the neck just to balance this style.

obviously you will need curly hair but if your hair is in spirals be careful that you dont cut it to short. When asking for this cut ask your stylist to keep the length at your cheekbones this is because curls can retract at least an inch. Having individual curls cut will help create choppiness but try to avoid bulkiness.

The best maintenance to keep this style looking great is to have it trimmed every 6 weeks. Once you have had it cut in to the style don’t over do it with tons of products as the cut will give it shape.

The romantic bob

The romantic bob looks best if you have medium to fine wavy hair so if you have thick hair you will find it will end up very pouffy. When asking for this cut tell your stylist that you want it to fall to about the middle of your neck and also that you would like long layers.

The best maintenance to keep this style looking great is to have it trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks. To keep it springy blow-dry with a diffuser.

The angled bob

This bob works with most hair types but is easier to style if your hair is fine and straight. If you have a round face shape you will find the angled bob will make your face appear thinner, but if you have narrow features you will find that it will make your face appear longer.

When asking for this cut you want it to be razor cut on the ends to texturizes the hair, this will leave the back of your hair look soft and not so harsh.

The best maintenance to keep this style looking great is to have it trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks.

So which bob is for you.

Are you bored with your hair style and want to try something new but don’t know what you want or how to ask for want you want.

There are some tips on different style.

Pixie hair style

For the pixie cut you need to feel confident about your skin and features as your face is going to be front and center with this cut

When asking for a pixie cut you want short but different length hair all over with a choppy fringe.

Tell them you want a choppy messy look and not a blunt cut.

The best maintenance to keep this cut looking fresh is to have it trimmed monthly.

The long and short hair cut

This cut looks great if you have an oval face shape, it will add great body and movement to fine, straight hair. But if you have wavy hair it will give you a rocker look.

When asking for this cut you want to say you want the layers long at the back of your head and choppy all over. You can also have a choppy fringe and layers around the face which can be tucked behind your ears or left in front.

The best maintenance to keep it looking fresh is to have it trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks.

A short bob cut

This cut looks great if you have an oval or a square face shape, but if you have a round face shape go for a longer version bob.its also looks best if the hair is poker straight.

When asking for a short bob tell the stylist that you want the longest piece of hair to fall an inch above your chin, this will get a face hugging effect.

The best maintenance to keep it looking really polished is to have it trimmed every 4 weeks.

Short shag cut

This cut will suit most hair types except those with very thick and very fine hair. This style also looks great if you have a delicate face with small features. When asking for this style tell the stylist that the longest hair should be at the crown of your head just like Ashley Judd’s style, or you mite end up with a mullet style at the back.

The best maintenance is for you to get it trimmed every 4 to 6 weeks. This style is very easy to do just pump up the roots and blow dry the side by tousling them, to finish the look kick out the ends.

A long layer style

This is a style for people that love having long hair but want a bit of volume and versatility. When asking for this style tell them that you want the layers to start about an inch below your chin. Make sure they layer the back as well this will give your hair movement and a nice curve all over your hair.

The best maintenance for you is to get it trimmed every 8 to 9 weeks to stop the ends getting straggly. Try not to over wash your hair as layers look better a few days later after washing.

Have you been trying to decide whether or not to changing your hair style.

Most of us go thought the same cycle of growing are hair long and then getting bored with it and chopping to short again, but then we regret it and start to grow it long again.

So before going to have your hair all cut off here are some tips to look at first.

1) Think about the texture of your hair first because if you have thick curly hair and want a bob that is smooth and straight you will find you will have to style your hair everyday.

2) I would all ways consider how long it will take to grow your hair back to the length it is before you cut it off (just in case you regret what you have done).

your hair grows averagely at about half an inch per month so if you decide to cut off 12 inches of your hair it will tack you about 2 years to grow it back to the length you loved.

3) When choosing a style think about how much maintenance you want to deal with daily. A lot of us think the shorter the hair is the easier it will be to manage but sorry to tell you this is just a myth.

4) I thing i would do before cutting your hair off is cut lots of photos of style you like out and then book an appointment with your stylist for consultation to get some advise .

She will be a good judge on whether any of the styles you like are realistic for you.

Now you are ready to go ahead and get the new you.

Go on love your hair don’t loathe it.

Its always good to protect your skin from staining when colouring your hair, there is couple of thing you can use. Most salons use barrier cream but in the case of not being able to find this product you can also use stuff around the house like Vaseline or any think with a oil base. When applying barrier cream or Vaseline around the hair line you have to be very careful not to coat the hair as this will stop the colour from taking.

If you are just doing a root application follow step 1,2,3 if you are doing all over application follow 1 to 4,

Lets start at the roots!

Step 1
Best way to start when applying a colour is put the colour all the way around the hair line then split the hair into four sections from forehead to the top of your neck (nape) and then ear to ear applying the colour as you go.

Step 2
Going back to the top of the head starting with the right hand sections take 5mm sections as you go down for the top of the head to the ear then doing the same with the left hand side.

Step 3
Doing the same as the step 2, right and left section do the same with the back sections, not forgetting to start from top to bottom.
With all the section that you do it is always best to cross check you do this by going the opposite direction than you did before.
Then to leave on for the amount of time needed

Taking the colour through!

Step 4
Once the time for the roots run out it is time to apply the colour to the rest of the hair (mid- lengths and ends) the best way to do this is to take about 3cm section applying the colour for the root to the end of the hair as you go once all the hair is coved in colour it is best to carefully comb in throw. Leave for the rest of the time then ready to be washed off.

Here are a couple of tips and ideas on how to get the look.

The big and bouncy

The most popular seventies hair styles were embodied by the like of Jerry hall, Joan Collins and Brigitte Bardot.
This look was simple yet undeniably glamorous.
It had been decades since woman had worn their hair long, tumbling down in all its glory and they embraced it whole heartedly using heated rollers to create huge waves.

The new bob

The Goldie Hawn-style bob was all the rage. A simple look, it was softer than many of the sixties versions.
With the hair caressing the face and having extra layering will add that all-important volume.
Again this style, although short, was all about softness and femininity, and with Marianne Faithfull and Jane Fonde leading the way. Who could resist?

The sweet and innocent

Probably the most famous of all seventies styles, this soft, straight look was an instant hit on the high street with softly styled, single length tresses, millions of women including the like of actress Natalie Wood; bond girl, Barbara Bach and actress, Jane Birkin.

You would have found short styles, long styles and even in between styles.

There were eras where only short was acceptable and teenaged boys would have to fight with there parents to let them grow it.

Now days you will find that men are sporting all different types of hairstyles as you will see if you look around, there are short, long, shoulder length, emo styles and even men with no hair.

Back in the 21st century there was more personality in them that ever before, but today you will find men seem to follow one certain style and they do what they want at any time.

The hair style is also important if you have frizzy hair as having to many layers will make it harder work but this dose not mean you can not have long layers and these will make your hair flow.

When it comes to blow-drying your hair it is best to use a diffuser as this will help control the frizz and will also help to keep the body.

When you have dry, coarse and brittle hair you will need to nourish it from within, you can not do this with a conditioner that you can just wash out.

You will need to use an intensive moisturising shampoo that will cleanse your hair with out you having to excessively rubbing (as this can cause more damage to your hair) once you have washed your hair you will need to follow it with a hot oil conditioner.

A hot oil conditioner is good as heat opens up your hair’s cuticles which allows the moisturiser to penetrate your hair’s shaft, this will give it suppleness, bounce and movement.

Try to stay away from mousse as on dry hair it can make it look dull using a blow drying or thickening lotion can be better.

If you have greasy hair try not to was it every day as you will over stimulate the sebaceous glands which will secret more grease into your hair, and you will also find that you will create your self in to a vicious circle that the more you wash your hair the my greasier it will become.

You will also find another problem when you regular wash your hair is that the roots will be greasy but the mid-length and ends of your hair will become dry and brittle this is because you are stripping the natural oils for it.

The best shampoo to use is a mild ph balanced shampoo and when you wash it tries not to rub your scalp too much and if you want to use conditioner use a mild one and only apply it to the mid lengths and the ends do not put on your roots.

Try not to eat too much Oily and fatty foods as these can contribute to greasy skin and scalp so watching your diet can help.

One good thing you can do is day that you are at home try and give your hair a break from daily washing.
